Copy Material Shortcuts are not Working

Troubleshooting steps for the copy Material shortcuts not working

Issue

You may encounter an issue where the shortcuts for copying Materials might not work. By default it is Shift + Left Mouse Button to copy a Material while hovering over an object and Shift + Right Mouse Button to copy it while hovering over another object

  • Duplicated key bindings
  • Same shortcuts used by a different software
  • Mouse movement

Resolution

The click handling is extremely sensitive in this part of KeyShot Studio: even if the mouse moves by a single pixel during the press and release of the mouse button, it is not registered as a click but a drag and thus a different hotkey combination.

If this is not the case, this issue might happen if the respective shortcuts are assigned multiple times with overlapping functionality where the other function might take priority.

You can search the Hotkeys in the Preferences by filtering for the hotkeys, e.g.
Shift+LMB
Shift+RMB

and check if there are conflicting shortcuts.

If the issue still persists, please check for other software that might be running and might be using the same hotkey combinations and taking priority.
Lastly, if it still fails, please create a ticket through our support portal and please try to narrow down at which stage it fails by doing the following:

  • Copy a material using the context menu in the real-time view, and selecting “Copy Material”. Then paste on another geometry with the shortcut (e.g. shift+RMB).

  • Do the other way around. Copy using the shortcut, then paste using the context menu.

This will allows us to see if both shortcuts are broken, or if it’s only one of them.

Then:

  • Try to use other mouse-dependent shortcuts, like marquee selection or camera panning.

    • => This will tell us whether all mouse shortcuts stopped working for you, or if it’s isolated to just these two.

  • Double-check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts for conflicts
