KeyShot Crashes When Using Shift+Click to Marquee-Select Surfaces After Splitting Object Surfaces

Unexpected application crash when marquee-selecting surfaces using Shift + Click after applying Split Object Surfaces.

Issue Description

Some users may experience KeyShot unexpectedly closing with no error message when attempting to marquee-select multiple surfaces after using the Split Object Surfaces feature. The crash occurs immediately upon releasing the mouse button after dragging a selection box with Shift + Click.

The issue may also occur in the main render viewer when using Shift + Click + drag to marquee-select multiple parts.

Environment

  • KeyShot 2025.2

  • Windows OS

  • GPU or CPU mode (issue occurs regardless of rendering mode)

Cause

The exact trigger is inconsistent, but the issue is related to an instability in KeyShot 2025.2 that occurs when performing marquee surface selection after splitting object surfaces. Selecting surfaces one at a time does not cause the crash, only marquee-style selection does.

This behavior was resolved by fully reinstalling KeyShot and updating to KeyShot 2025.3, which includes stability improvements that prevent the crash.

Resolution

Recommended Fix: Update to KeyShot 2025.3

Updating to the latest KeyShot version fully resolves the issue. Users who updated to KeyShot 2025.3 reported that the crash no longer occurs.
