# Locked Materials in KeyShot Studio Library

## Understanding and Resolving Locked Material Folders in KeyShot Studio

### **Issue**

When adding a personal material library outside the main KeyShot folder (accessible to all users in Windows), materials appear in the library with a **lock symbol** next to them, preventing modifications.

### **Environment**

- KeyShot Studio (any version)
- Windows or MacOS
- Custom material library stored outside the default KeyShot folder

### **Cause**

The lock symbol indicates that the material folder has been set as **Read-only** in KeyShot Preferences. This setting restricts users from making modifications to the materials stored in that folder.

### **Resolution**

1. Open **KeyShot Preferences**.
2. Navigate to the **Folders** tab.
3. Locate the custom material folder that appears locked.
4. Select the folder and click **Edit**.
5. Uncheck the **Read-only** option.
6. Click **OK** and restart KeyShot if necessary.

After making this change, the materials should no longer appear locked, and users will be able to modify them as needed.
