Locked Materials in KeyShot Library

Understanding and Resolving Locked Material Folders in KeyShot

Issue

When adding a personal material library outside the main KeyShot folder (accessible to all users in Windows), materials appear in the library with a lock symbol next to them, preventing modifications.

Environment

  • KeyShot (any version)

  • Windows or MacOS

  • Custom material library stored outside the default KeyShot folder

Cause

The lock symbol indicates that the material folder has been set as Read-only in KeyShot Preferences. This setting restricts users from making modifications to the materials stored in that folder.

Resolution

  1. Open KeyShot Preferences.

  2. Navigate to the Folders tab.

  3. Locate the custom material folder that appears locked.

  4. Select the folder and click Edit.

  5. Uncheck the Read-only option.

  6. Click OK and restart KeyShot if necessary.

After making this change, the materials should no longer appear locked, and users will be able to modify them as needed.
