Antivirus Flags KeyShot Installer as a Threat

Resolving false positives during KeyShot installation

Environment

  • KeyShot Studio (all versions)

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11

  • Norton Antivirus (or similar antivirus software)

Issue

When attempting to install KeyShot Studio, the installer is blocked by Norton (and other antivirus software), which flags the file as containing an “IDP.Generic” threat. As a result, the installer is quarantined and KeyShot cannot be installed.

Cause

This detection is typically a false positive, meaning the antivirus software incorrectly flags the KeyShot installer as a threat. Because the file is quarantined, KeyShot cannot complete installation or launch properly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, reinstall KeyShot while temporarily disabling Norton:

  1. Uninstall or Remove Previous Attempt

    • If the installer file is quarantined, delete it or restore it from quarantine.

  2. Temporarily Disable Norton

    • Open Norton and temporarily turn off real-time protection.

  3. Reinstall KeyShot

    • Run the KeyShot installer again using the same file you downloaded.

    • Complete the installation process.

  4. Re-enable Norton

    • Once installation is complete, turn Norton real-time protection back on.

Additional Information

  • This issue is uncommon but can occur when antivirus software mistakenly flags legitimate installers.

  • If the problem persists, try adding the KeyShot installer or installation folder to your antivirus exclusion list.

  • Always download KeyShot from the official KeyShot Download Page to ensure file integrity.
