Error: Failure of LUT in KeyShot

Troubleshooting LUT errors and terminal messages on macOS when opening files in KeyShot.

Issue

Users receive “Error: Failure of LUT” messages and additional terminal error messages when opening files in KeyShot.

Environment

  • Product: KeyShot

  • Platform: macOS

  • Version: All supported versions

  • Configuration: Systems using custom color profiles (e.g., Eye One Profiler).

Cause

The error typically occurs when KeyShot fails to load the system color profile in time, usually shortly after system startup. If the default profile is corrupted, misconfigured, or has restricted permissions, KeyShot may fail to generate the Color Lookup Table (LUT).

Additionally, harmless terminal error messages can appear due to duplicate class implementations in system libraries. These are cosmetic and do not affect KeyShot functionality.

Resolution

  1. Restart KeyShot

    • In most cases, simply restarting KeyShot clears the LUT error.

  2. Verify and update color profile settings

    • On macOS, go to:

      • Apple menu > System Settings > Displays

      • Under Color Profile, choose the profile you want to use.

    • If using a custom profile (e.g., Eye One Profiler), switch temporarily to a default macOS profile to test.

  3. Use ColorSync Utility to check profiles

    • Open ColorSync Utility → go to Profile First Aid → click Verify to check for issues.

    • If issues are found, repair the profile.

  4. Reset ColorSync preferences

    • Remove any custom profiles from:
      ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles

    • Restart your Mac.

  5. Update macOS

    • Ensure macOS is fully updated for compatibility with display and color profiles.

  6. Regarding Terminal error messages (Bug ID: KEYS-28399):

    • These messages appear due to duplicate class implementations in system libraries (e.g., libkwidgets.dylib, libanalytics.dylib, Crash Reporter).

    • They are harmless and can be ignored.

    • To suppress them, disable “Show recent apps in Dock” in macOS system settings.
