Accidentally deleted a materials folder? Here’s how to reinstall KeyShot’s default resources.
Issue
You’ve accidentally deleted one of KeyShot’s default materials folders—such as “Metal”—and can no longer find or use those materials in your library.
Environment
-
Product: KeyShot Studio
-
Versions: KeyShot 10 and later
-
Operating Systems: Windows, macOS
Cause
The materials folder was removed from the KeyShot Resources directory. This can happen if a folder is accidentally deleted, moved, or overwritten.
Resolution (Best Practices)
You can restore the missing materials by reinstalling the default KeyShot resources:
-
Visit the KeyShot Resources Installer page:
https://www.keyshot.com/keyshot-studio/previous-versions/ -
Scroll down to your version of KeyShot Studio (e.g., KeyShot 10).
-
Under the Resources section, choose the installer that matches your operating system:
-
Windows
-
macOS
-
-
Download and run the installer.
This will restore all the default KeyShot library resources—including materials, environments, textures, and more. -
Restart KeyShot.
Once the installation is complete, open your Library and verify that the “Metal” folder (or other missing folders) is available again.
Still Missing Materials?
If the folder is still not showing up after reinstalling, go to Edit > Preferences > Folders and ensure the correct Resources Folder Location is set.
