What to Do If You Aren’t Prompted to Use the Migration Assistant After Upgrading to KeyShot Studio 2025

Issue

Users may encounter an issue with the Migration Assistant not working when upgrading to KeyShot Studio 2025.

Environment Details

  • KeyShot Studio 2025

Resolution

When you install a new version of KeyShot Studio and open it for the first time, you should have the opportunity to migrate all your resources and settings to the newer version.

The Migration Assistant should pop up if you have the previous version of KeyShot Studio installed on the same device. If it did not appear, you can retry setting up KeyShot Studio 2025 to prompt you for migration by following the steps below.

Delete the Settings.xml File

Mac Instructions:

  1. Click on "Go" in the Finder bar, then click on "Computer."
  2. Open "Macintosh HD."
  3. Open the "Library" folder.
  4. Open the "Application Support" folder.
  5. Open the "KeyShot [version]" folder.
  6. Look for the KS[version]Settings.xml file and delete it.

Windows Instructions:

  1. Go to one of the following destinations:
    • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\KeyShot [version]
    • C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\KeyShot [version]
  2. Look for the KS[version]Settings.xml file and delete it.
  3. Relaunch KeyShot. If prompted, DO NOT migrate any settings from older versions of KeyShot.

Once the file is deleted, launch KeyShot Studio again. It should ask if you want to migrate the settings and resources from the previous version. If it does not, a fresh install may be necessary.
