Issues when Installing KeyShot to a Network Drive

In this article, you can follow a guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise when installing KeyShot on a Network Drive

Issue

If you encounter issues such as unavailable folders, changes in program settings, or difficulties launching KeyShot when installing it on a Network Drive, it is likely due to the shared nature of everything on the drive, including settings. Installing KeyShot on a Network Drive will overwrite the existing settings file, potentially causing problems. The Plugins Folder, in particular, needs to be available locally for proper file path access between your CAD program and KeyShot. Network Drives may have certain permissions and settings that can block this access.

To avoid these issues, we highly recommend installing KeyShot locally first. Then, using the Preferences option, you can add your network drive file paths to the correct folders. This will allow you to access all items stored on OneDrive while ensuring that your primary file paths to the plugins folder and XML files remain separate and unaffected by other users' changes.

Resolution

To modify your Resource File Path:

  • First, it is recommended that you create a backup of your Resource Folder to save any textures, models and renders
  • Uninstall your current installation of KeyShot
  • Download a Fresh Installation using the Full Installer
  • Download KeyShot to a local drive
  • Follow the instructions provided during installation and launch KeyShot as normal
  • Once launched, open your Preferences and select 'Folders'
  • Here, you will see what file paths are used to access your files. Click the Folder icon next to the desired folder and add your Network File Path.

You should now have access to everything on the Network Drive while maintaining the integrity of your personal settings and information.
