How to resolve sudden overexposure or washed-out frames when using GPU rendering in KeyShot Studio
Issue
When rendering in GPU mode, the scene appears completely blown out—almost as if there’s a full white sun flooding the image. This can affect both the Real-Time Viewport and the final render output, making scenes unusable.
CPU mode still produces correct results, but GPU rendering is preferred for performance—especially when working with large animation sequences.
Environment
-
Product: KeyShot
-
Rendering Mode: GPU
-
OS: Windows
Cause
This issue is often related to the Ground Illumination setting in the Lighting tab of the Project window. While normally helpful, this setting can sometimes cause excessive brightness when used in combination with certain HDRIs or scene setups—especially in GPU mode.
Resolution (Best Practices)
Disable "Ground Illumination"
-
Open your scene in KeyShot.
-
Go to the Lighting tab in the Project window.
-
Locate and uncheck the box labeled Ground Illumination.
-
Preview your scene again in GPU mode.
This setting often resolves extreme brightness or full white-out issues in GPU renders.
